Obituary of George I. Richardson, Jr.

George “Sonny” Richardson of Naugatuck age 94 passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 21, 2020 with his loving and prayerful daughter at his side. . He married Lillian (Gecks) Richardson on July 1, 1950, who predeceased him on February 6, 2013. George (Sonny) was born in Shelburne, Vermont on March 8, 1926, son of George I. Richardson, Sr., and Roberta (Wallace) Richardson. George graduated from Shelburne High School in 1945. George had a long career with Uniroyal Footwear in Naugatuck as well as a supenumerary on the Naugatuck Police force. After retiring from Uniroyal, he continued working first in home improvement and then for many years as a carrier for the Waterbury Republican-American. He truly enjoyed getting out early in the morning and more specifically exceeded his customers' expectations. Due to health reasons he finally had to completely retire in 2012 at the age of 85 giving him time to watch his favorite sports teams the UConn Husky Woman's basketball and the Boston Red Sox baseball games. He was able to stay home and be cared for until April of this year, and that is because of the wonderful and caring neighbors as well as others. Words can't express enough gratitude for Ann and Steve Burgess as well as Kathy, Kevin, and Michael Letts with all the continual and beyond measure support they provided. Additionally, thank you to the neighbors that provided help and visited him for conversation; Alan Peterson, Tony Matos, Hasan and Lynn Fogle. Special thank you to the in-house providers Heather, Josh, Laqwanda from Kindred Care. Stephan from Home Instead and Mike from Meals-on- Wheels. In April this year, failing health meant care would be needed outside of the home. George’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his wonderful caregivers at St Mary's Hospital and Regal care in Waterbury, so many of you shared about how you enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor. Thank you also to the Naugatuck ambulance crew. George is survived by a son, Gary G. Richardson (Cheryl) of Charlotte, VT and a daughter Karen L. Richardson of Stafford Springs, CT. two granddaughters, Corey A. Richardson of Burlington, VT and Brittany Jackson (Greg) of Woburn, MA., two great grandchildren Calvin Nicholas Jackson and Reese Corey Jackson. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his youngest son Stephen and sister Roberta (Sis) Lewis. Again, for all those mentioned, may you be Blessed for all the blessings you brought to his life. There are no services at this time.
