Obituary of Carl Whitman Lawton

Carl Whitman Lawton, 64, of Groton, passed away on August 28, 2017.

He was born in Springfield, MA on April 27, 1953, son of the late Theodore, Jr. and Marjorie (Beaman) Lawton.

Carl is survived by his daughters, Liz Acuna and her husband Chris of Middlebury, Jill Shockley and her husband Michael of Mount Pleasant, TN, six grandchildren, Keith, Luke, Cameron, Shawn, Evangeline, and Naomi. He also leaves a sister, Trish Salem of NC, a sister-in-law, Dee Lawton of Plymouth, MA, a close nephew, Nathan Lawton of Monterey, MA, along with several other nieces and nephews. He also leaves the mother of his children, Jeannine Derouin, and a dear friend, Carol Garbraith.

He was predeceased by siblings Charles, Ted, and Linda Lawton.

Carl spent years of his career working for Intel and enjoyed being a part of the rise in technology. He coached many seasons of youth soccer in Watertown and will be remembered for his boisterous sideline presence. Carl found peace in commune with the outdoors, from trails to biking and more recently in the years he spent by the sand and waves on the CT shore. God grant us serenity.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday September 23, 2017 at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. A calling hour will be held on Saturday September 23, 2017 from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Middlebury Cemetery.
