Katherine “Kat”  Ellis

 

April 8, 1958 - January 3, 2019

 

Katherine “Kat” Ellis , Waterbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 3, 2019 at VITAS Hospice Center at St. Mary’s Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

 

Kat was born April 8, 1958 to Edward and Ruth Ellis in Prince George County, Virginia and moved to Waterbury as a child.  Her parents have both predeceased her.

 

Kat was a graduate of Crosby High School in 1976 and worked at Southbury Training School for just shy of 30 years.  She was very dedicated to the care of the clients until she became ill. Prior to her career at Southbury Training School, she was a manager for Burger King Corporation. Kat was known for traveling the world and often organizing travel expeditions and gatherings for family and friends.

 

Kat  leaves to cherish her memory,  her son, Gerrod A. Ellis, ten siblings  including five sisters, Audrey Ellis, Cynthia “Cent” Ellis-Manning (Neil), Lorine “Mer” Ellis, Linda Ellis all of Waterbury and Norine “Sugarmama” Ellis of Hartford, Connecticut, five brothers  Edward “Pert” Ellis (Aubra “Jean"), Thomas Ellis, Wayne Ellis all of Waterbury,  Tyrone Ellis (Debby) of Middletown, and  Cedric “Cecil” Ellis of Madison, Wisconsin, a great aunt, Reverend Ellen Dugger of Washington, D.C., an aunt Ms. Doretha Edwards (Ernest) of Waverly, Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  her dearest friends and hanging partners, Sheray Griffin, James “JB” Burton, Lorna Johnson, her life long friend and Gerrod’s father, Ronald Bruce Davis and scores of other friends and coworkers.

 

A Memorial service will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Prospect Memorial, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Burial will be at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury following the service. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of the service. James R. Sanders, Funeral Director.
