Obituary of George Garrett Havican, Jr.
George Garrett Havican Jr., 76, of Prospect, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Hospital of Central CT, New Britain Campus. He was the loving husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Milot) Havican for over 50 years.
He was born in Waterbury on August 21, 1942 son of the late George and Genevieve (Dunn) Havican. After graduating from Croft High School, George served in the Army Reserves. He received his Bachelors degree from Quinnipiac College and his Masters Degree from University of Bridgeport. He retired from Dual Lite Inc. as Corporate Traffic Manager. After his retirement, he was the Group Home Manager for the Department of Mental Health for the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Waterbury. He also served on Prospect Zoning Board of Appeals for 12 years and a member of the Prospect Republican Town Committee. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching horse racing, traveling (especially to weddings in Ireland), telling incredibly funny jokes and spending time with his family, especially his three lovely grandchildren.
Besides his wife, George is survived by a son Gary Havican and wife Meghan of Farmington, three grandchildren Ashley, Caitlyn, and Jack Havican. He also leaves a brother Alan Havican and wife Janet of Prospect, a sister Linda Havican Kupstis of Meriden, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister Marjorie Minervini, her husband Robert Minervini and brother in law Richard Kupstis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd., Prospect. Burial with full Military Honors will be at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.
Our family would like to thank the generous and caring staff of the Hospital of Central Connecticut and its Cancer Center and all of the amazing caregivers who treated George so well while he was there. Special thanks to Dr. Steve Prunk and Priscilla Moreira, RN for their tireless support of our family and of our husband, Dad, brother, uncle and "Poppy"!
