Obituary of John Charles Murphy

John "Jack" Murphy, 79, of Prospect, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Glendale Center surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Sarah "Sally" (McCann) Murphy for over 60 years.

He was born on February 1, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY son of the late John and Rae Allison (Eckle) Murphy. Prior to his retirement, he was the Department Head of Automotive Technologies at W.F. Kaynor Technical HS. He was a life member of the NRA, Bristol Fish and Game Club, the Woodbury/Southbury Rod and Gun Club, and the Mattatuck Drum Band.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and unwavering friend. He was an avid sportsman, conservationist, and a man of many hobbies and interests. He was quick with a joke and always had a smile for everyone. Jack truly loved life and time spent with family and friends.

Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his children; Sally Guglielmo and husband Stephen of Avon, Jack Murphy and wife Lola of Prospect, and Kevin Murphy and wife Kelley of Prospect, two sisters Elaine Skewis of FL and Carol Higgins of MI. He also leaves his grandchildren; Christa Cubeta and husband David of CA, Dana, Stephanie, and Stephen Guglielmo, and Erin and Rachel Murphy, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Joan Fabas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd, Prospect. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd, Prospect.
