Obituary of Giacomo Gentile

Mr. Giacomo “Jack” Gentile, 88, of  Prospect  passed away peacefully Monday July 8, 2019 at home.  He was the loving husband of Marie (Ciarcia) Gentile. Jack was born April 30, 1931 in Bisceglie, Italy, son of the late Guiseppi and Antonia (Napolitano) Gentile.  He immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island with his family at the age of 17.

Jack was a well-respected Master Machinist who worked on projects such as the USS Nautilus and the Apollo Moon Rocket.  His passions included gardening; growing tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkin flowers that were enjoyed by the whole family.  Jack loved family get-togethers, holidays, vacations to Maryland and New Jersey, blue crabs, the UCONN Women’s Basketball, Yankees and the New York Giants.  Every Sunday he could be found yelling and coaching from the couch at the television.

Jack is survived by his wife Marie, sons; Dr. Joseph (Irene) and John (Denise) and Perry( Dawn) Gentile, daughters Toni (Herbie) Corbett and Maria (Bill) Vienneau, seven grandchildren; Lauren, Andrew and Alexia Gentile, Justin and Jonathon Gentile, Nina and Christian Corbett and a great granddaughter Hailey Corbett, a   brother Sergio (Eleanor) Gentile, sisters; Rosie Cortese, Teresa (Sal) Boiano, and Lisa(Kenny) Malcolm, and sisters in law Lucretia Gentile and Claudette Gentile.

Jack was predeceased by his brothers Jimmy and Victor Gentile, sisters Nicoletta and Freddie Cattaneo, and a brother in law Domenic Cortese.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Health Foundation at www.healthwellfoundation.org.  Mr. Giacomo’s family is having a memorial mass at St. Anthony Church July 29, 2019 10 am.
