Obituary of Ernest Edward Smith, Jr.

Mr. Ernest E. Smith Jr. of Waterbury departed this life on Saturday, August 24,2019 in Rhode Island.  Mr. Smith was the husband of Veona (Solomons) Smith from Cape Town, South Africa.  Ernest was born March 10, 1968 in Waterbury, a son of Magdalene (Riddick) Smith and the late Ernest E. Smith Sr.

Ernest was educated in the Waterbury public school system, graduating from Kennedy High School Class of 1986 and attended Bentley College in Massachusetts.  He worked for H & R Block and the United States Postal Service.  He also helped family and friends in the tax season.

Ernest’s favorite hobby was fishing.  He was an avid UCONN Men and Women Basketball and NY Giants fan.  He always surprised his wife with gifts and was a friendly man with everybody.

Ernest is survived by his wife Veona, mother Magdalene, brother Darrell and his wife Kimberly, all of Waterbury, sister Trisha Smith of Hartford, grandmother Geneva Smith, aunt Darlene Smith of Norwalk, nephews Darell Smith, Jerome James, Quest Brown and Darrell Smith Jr and niece Dashayna Brown.

A funeral service will be held Thursday September 5, 2019 at 11 am at the Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St., Waterbury.    Burial will be in the New Pine Grove Cemetery.  A calling hour will be from 10 am until the time of the service. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 9:30 am.
