Cathie Cortina

Obituary of Cathie Cortina

Cathie (Metzger) Cortina

April 25, 1953 - September 16, 2019

Cathie knew that it was her time,

And would have wanted her obituary in rhyme.

“Be creative,” she would tell us in jest,

“I don’t want it to be like all the rest.”

Cathie left us after a long battle fought,

And left behind memories and things she had taught,

Like finding a song for every situation,

And explaining the rules to every game in creation.

She loved to join all the clubs she could find,

Like tap dancing and dominoes on Saturday night.

Quilting was one of her all time faves,

Disney, The Beatles, the Rhode Island waves,

Singing in chorus, Harmony on the Sound,

Movies with lifelong friends she had found.

Cathie checked off her bucket list one by one

Skydiving, running 5Ks, Hamilton

Going places she’d never been before,

Now she’ll go on her own Magical Mystery Tour.

She leaves behind three daughters, eight grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers

To join her grandparents, her father, and her mother.

Sisters Sue, Tree, and Sandie

Brothers Skip and Henry

Daughters Gretchen, Brigitte, and Jessie

Sons-in-law Matt and Jeremy

Grandkids by nicknames she’d call them each time:

Cole Bear, Lu, Jackie, Reedie Sweetie

Cora Muffin, Mazie Dumplin’, Nellie Bellie, and Ster-fry

Lots of family and friends, including nephews and nieces,

That she made sure felt special, ‘cause she loved them to pieces.

Surrounded by loved ones at her bedside

Who will never forget the day...the music...died.

The calling hours will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Prospect Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd, Prospect. A private Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
