Obituary of Robert L. Moraniec
Robert “Bob” L. Moraniec, age 70, of Prospect passed away peacefully on Friday February 14, 2020 at the Smilow Cancer Center after a valiant fight with leukemia. He was the loving husband of Lorraine “Lorrie” (Zamoyski) Moraniec for over 45 years. Bob was born January 1, 1950 in Derby, CT, a son of the late Louis R. and Anna (Hayduk) Moraniec.
Bob began his military career in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. After honorable discharge, Bob partnered with a couple of friends to begin the Cable Contractors of CT, a cable TV construction company. During this time Bob met and married the love of his life, Lorrie. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard as a supply sergeant from which he retired after 22 years. He also worked for New Breed Logistics for about 5 years. He ended his career working for the town of Prospect at the recycling center. The proudest moments in his life were the births of his two children, Adam and Dana. Bob was very active with the American Legion Tommy Merriman Post 194 and VFW post 8075. Bob was Dana’s personal handyman, Papa to Benjamin, loved his bourbon and was a diehard Detroit Lions fan. Bob enjoyed traveling with Lorrie and spending time with his family.
Bob will be greatly missed by his wife Lorrie, son Adam and wife Becky of Woodbury, daughter Dana of Ansonia, grandson Benjamin, two brothers, Michael and his wife Louise, Louis and wife Linda, two sisters Eileen Cholewinski and Ann and husband Robert Figoras and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his brother John Moraniec and sister Dorothy Ireland.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd, Prospect. Please meet directly at church. Calling hours will be held Thursday February 20, 2020 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd. Prospect. Military Honors will be accorded at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
