Obituary of Forestine Woods

Forestine Woods, 80, of Waterbury departed this life at Waterbury Hospital on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Forestine was born in Sommerville, Tennessee June 26, 1939, a daughter of the late Robert Woods and Magnolia (Tolds) Woods. Forestine was known as “Stine” to her family and friends. The late Robert Woods moved his family to New York City in 1948. He used to say “I have all daughters and they will never by farmers”. Forestine attended Public School 40 and graduated from high school in Jamaica Queens, NY. After high school, Stine worked as a mail handler and then went on to work for many years as Home Health Aide for VNA of Waterbury before retiring. Forestine was a person who always tried to help whoever needed her. She was a blessing to so many in her very own family and others as well. Forestine had a heart of gold, always saw the good in others and never shut her door to anyone. Forestine was an excellent cook, was famous for her banana pudding, and loved playing cards on weekends with her card partners. Forestine leaves to cherish her memory her sons Rodney and Alton Sherrod, stepchildren Desmon and Jadinna, grandchildren DeShown, Jermaine, Michelle, Seantavia, Tysean, Kesean, Rayshawn, Tyshawn, Ryan, Rodney Jr. and three great grandchildren, her sisters Patricia Woods, Barbara Bingham and special sister Sherrie Crenshaw, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and her Minneapolis and Tennessee family. Forestine was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Katrina, sons Stanley, Clifton and Sean, her grandson Sean Junior and her sisters Juanita and Dorothy Forestine’s family would like to thank you all for your prayers, visits, telephone calls and delicious food. Special thanks to Issa, Forestine’s home health aide, for taking Forestine to her doctor appointments. We thank Barbara Thompson for all the rides you gave her to New York when the family came from out of town. Thank you Sherrie for all that you do and did, our family will never forget your kindness and thoughtfulness towards Forestine. Sherrie we also thank William for taking you to see about Forestine. Thank you Staphanie(Nikki) for being a blessing to our family once again. Thank you Reverend Lynnette Davis for your guidance to our family. Thank you Elder John Jones for your love of us. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 11 am at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Rd., Waterbury. All mourners are asked to adhere to the governor’s Phase II: six foot social distancing guidelines, wear masks and remain at your vehicles. Only immediate family members will be seated at the gravesite.
