Obituary of Vivian Berner

Vivian W. Berner, beloved wife of the late Robert G. Berner (2019), passed peacefully at age 96 on July 28, 2020 surrounded by her daughters Adriane, Valerie and Charlotte. She is also survived by her brother Raymond, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a nephew. Upon graduation from the Pratt Institute for Business, Vivian joined the American Jersey Cattle Club where she handled their PR and advertising. A resident of Cheshire for 65 years, she was an avid volunteer and member of the Volunteer/Auxiliary Boards at Gaylord and the Cheshire Library. As a Board Member of AFS (American Field Service), her PR talents resulted in Cheshire sending its first High School student to study abroad. In addition, Vivian was an active member of the Cheshire Woman’s Club, the Cheshire Garden Club and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. A woman of many talents, flair, and compassion, Vivian loved painting and was known for her old-world wooden figures. She was a competitive tennis and bridge player, and a passionate reader – always eager to discuss the latest books and state of the world. Fresh air, long walks, and hikes with her husband and family were food for her soul. Fluent in German and French, she and Bob traveled and hiked extensively in Europe and the US exploring the places they had read about. Hers was a life well-lived. As a close friend once described her, “A busy mind in many places, true beauty of the soul embraces”. Her presence will forever be with us. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Cheshire, CT. at a later date when Covid-19 restrictions allow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Vivian’s memory to: St. Peter’s Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410
