Obituary of George T. Knight

George T. Knight, 93, of Waterbury, passed away on November 10, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Queen Catherine Knight. He was born in Haslett, NC, on August 14, 1927 son of the late George and Addie (Gary) Knight. George was raised by his stepfather Timothy Britt after his father passed at a very young age. He served his country in the Army during WWII. He was the owner of Cherry restaurant which was best known as “The Skylark”. George was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was also affectionately called “the second mayor of Waterbury. He was known by many and loved by all. George was a very classy gentleman with a stylish attire and had a hat for every occasion. George was an accomplished Swing Dancer. George is survived by his son Roderick Knight and life partner Vanessa Bonano of Watertown. He leaves good friends Henry Bond of Wolcott, Rosie Brown and a special cousin Gladys Passmore both of Waterbury along with many other cousins. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Walk through calling hours will be from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Masks and social distancing are required for all services.
