Obituary of Ruby Lois Felton
Mrs. Ruby L. (Hurdle) Felton, 85 of Sumac Street passed away Friday August 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of Leamous Felton.
Mrs. Felton was born April 5, 1932 in Gatesville, North Carolina. She was the fifth of seven children of the late Jessie and Viola (Roscoe) Hurdle.
After graduation from T.S. Cooper High School in North Carolina, Ruby came to Waterbury in 1950. She worked diligently all her life and retired as a Nurse’s Aide from St. Mary’s Hospital after 25 years of service. Always meticulous in her appearance, she was known for a freshly ironed handkerchief to be seen from her lab jacket pocket. She was loved and respected by her colleagues and patients.
Ruby loved her Zion Baptist Church family and often was nearly the last person to leave after Sunday service. She was kind to all, having a compliment for those she met whether or not she knew them.
She enjoyed cooking and it was known if you visited her home on Elizabeth Street you wouldn’t leave without a very large portioned meal. She was a joy to know and will be missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by three children; Lynell (Stanley) Brown, Daniel Felton and Gloria Felton with whom she made her home, all of Waterbury. She is survived by two grandsons; Andre Yeldell and Derek Brown, two great grandsons; Gerron Yeldell Pendarvis and DreVon Yeldell. Two sisters; Erma Eason of Waterbury and Hilda Taylor of Altamonte Springs, FL, brother in law Samuel Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by three brothers; Lenward Hurdle, Jessie Leroy Hurdle and George Lee Hurdle, and a sister; Rachel Carter.
