Obituary of Arthur Emil Cyr

Arthur Cyr "Retired Salesman, Community Activist" Southington, CT Arthur Cyr, 67, passed away September 10, 2017, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Art was born in Fall River, MA and was predeceased by his parents Adrien and Helene Cyr. He grew up in Thomaston and attended local schools. A graduate of Thomaston High School, as a Junior won the 1967 Berkshire Mile Run. He attended Post Junior College in Waterbury. He is survived by his son Kevin (Ruth) of Southington, daughter Jennifer of Waterbury, his brothers Gerard (MaryAnn) of South Carolina, Maurice (Marilyn) of Vermont, Roland (Debra) of Unionville and sister Louise (George) of Watertown. Art was an outgoing and friendly guy with a huge personality who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Full of energy and a big heart, he lent his hand where he saw a need. In the family he was known as "the historian" able to recall stories, landmarks and events with incredible detail. He used Facebook daily to stay in touch with friends, relatives and community resources. Art worked for 9 years at A & P in sales, rising to Assistant Manager. From that experience he owned a Dairy Mart franchise for 2 years, then for 9 years worked for Lorillard Tobacco Company, 6 years for Brulin Chemical as well as Manager in a Food Bag Convenience for 5 years. Lastly he was employed as Purchasing Agent/Office Manager for K C Krafts Industrial Controls. Later on he was a condo property manager. He loved his adopted home of Southington. Throughout all of his career, he was a community activist in Southington frequently attending 20 or more meetings each month for Town Council, Boards and Commissions always keeping the best interests of the Town as his first priority. He regularly spoke at meetings, reviewed minutes, scrutinized budgets, provided suggestions and ideas, some of which saved Town resources . His passion and determination will be greatly missed. The annual Apple Harvest Festival was a highlight for him, attending planning meetings but especially the fresh-cooked apple fritters. A life-long "Star Trek" fan, he followed the UConn Women's basketball team and treasured an autographed photo of Rebecca Lobo. Especially during his last years he enjoyed basking in the sun in his yard.
