Doris Graney

Obituary of Doris Caroline Graney

Doris Caroline (Carey) Graney, 96, died peacefully on September 26, 2017. She was the wife of the late Robert Howard Graney.

She was born on May 25, 1921 in Waterbury, daughter of the late John and Hazel (Stewart) Carey.

Doris graduated from Wilby, class of 1939.  Early on she worked for Clayton’s Jewelry and Dorfman’s Dress Shop.  During World War II, she was employed as a Bookkeeper at the Service Club at Buckley Field in Denver, CO where her husband Bob was training as a tail gunner on a B24 Liberator. Doris worked for Rabbi Levy at Temple Israel in Waterbury and ended her career at the Lombard Bros. Trucking Company’s Credit Union as a Bookkeeper/Office Manager for 27 years.

Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, puzzles, and crossword puzzles.  She enjoyed all sports especially the UCONN Women’s Basketball, Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Tennis, and New England Patriots.

As her health and physical capabilities slowly declined, as more and more healthcare faces entered her life, she never ceased to pray for those around her and say the Rosary daily.  She was a unique lady in many ways and certainly a blessing to everyone she met.

Doris is survived by a son, Brian Graney of Prospect, a daughter, Terry and her husband Steve Hoare of FL and a sister Diane and husband Dennis Croce of Morris along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert John Graney, her only grandson, Robert Shawn Graney, and a brother Fredrick Carey.

The family would like to thank all her healthcare personnel especially her aide, Chris Irizarry and her former nurse Carla Larocque.

At Doris’ request, there are no calling hours and a private burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ honor to Spotty Dog Rescue, Attn: Deidre Croce, P.O. Box 1571, Waterbury CT 06721
