Obituary of Shanyai Emani Dancy

On December 11, 2017 Shanyai Emani Dancy "NYAI" of Stratford, CT passed away suddenly at the age of 19. Shanyai was born October 17, 1998 in Waterbury, CT. She was the beloved daughter of Edward Dancy Sr. and Tracy (Depugh) Dancy.

Shanyai attended school in the Waterbury and New Haven school systems. Shanyai was pursuing school in the cosmetology field. Shanyai was employed by Boston Market and was very involved in pageantry and modeling.

Shanyai was a tenacious, bright, energetic fun filled young lady who spent several years in pageantry. She was able to exhibit her talents and amazing pictures which were displayed in Glitzy Girl Magazine. She absolutely adored being on stage and stunning us with her infectious smile and talent. She also worked with Connecticut Kids Modeling Agency and New York City's MMG Modeling Agency. She enjoyed the art of makeup and hairstyling. She loved making herself and others look and feel beautiful.

Shanyai was able to get a prestigious print model job with the infamous Blue Man Group and was featured on the 30 Rock Show featuring Tracy Morgan. Shanyai had many talents and gifts but most of all she loved her family.

Besides her parents, she is survived by four sisters: Kartina Depugh of New Haven. Jessica Dancy and Brianna Lanier both of Waterbury, CT. Aneeya Dancy of Southington, CT. Her four brothers; Edward Dancy Jr. of New Haven, Termayne Dancy, Anfernee Dancy and Shavon Dancy all of Waterbury, CT. Her maternal grandparents: Linda Cross and Ronald Davis. Her great grandmother, Loretta Cross of Roduca North Carolina. She is survived by Aunts, Uncles, a nephew and niece whom she adored. And a host of friends.

She was predeceased by her sister Jasmine Dancy and her paternal grandmother Gloria Daniels.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Rehoboth Church, 101 East Farms Street, Waterbury. Calling hours will be Thursday, December 28 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 10:30-11:00 AM.  Burial will be at New Pine Grove Cemetery. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury, Prospect.  James R. Sanders, Funeral Director is handling the service.
