Obituary of Philip J. Poggio

Philip J. Poggio, 65, of Prospect, passed away on September 18, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Lorraine (Totz) Poggio.

He was born on July 1, 1953, grew up in Wallingford, and was the son of the late Pasquale and Mary (Pasquale) Poggio. After high school, Phil joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. During his service, he was assigned to submarine SSBN-642 USS Kamehameha. He was a photographer for over 25 years and had the privilege to go to the Smithsonian Museum and photograph King Tut’s Mask. He is a member of the Catholic War Veterans and a lifetime member and former commander of VFW Post 8075. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a foreman for heavy equipment operations. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Springer Softail motorcycle.

Besides his wife, Phil is survived by a daughter Maria Poggio and fiancé Steven Marini, a granddaughter Gabriella Poggio Marini all of Prospect, a brother Roger Poggio and a sister in law Beverly Poggio both of Meriden, sister in law Janet Slevinsky of Lee, ME, brothers in law Burt Totz and wife Carol of Canadensis, PA and Edward Totz and father in law John Totz both of ME,  along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son William Barry, brothers Donald and Richard Poggio, and a sister in law Kim Poggio.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Center Street Cemetery, 1 Center Street, Wallingford followed by burial with Military Honors. A calling hour will be held from 9- 10 am on Monday at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect.
