Obituary of Helen Odessa Culbreth

WATERBURY – Helen Odessa (Jordan) (Goodman) Culbreth, 86, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019  at Waterbury Hospital (VITAS) surrounded by her loving family.

“Mother” as she was affectionately known by many, was born December 26, 1932 in Chowan County, NC, a daughter to the late William Henry & Irene (Boyce) Jordan.

Helen attended school in North Carolina, moving to Waterbury in 1963.  She worked for Hemingway Corporation and Burndy – retiring in 1994.  Helen was a member of Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a past member of the Pastor’s Aide Society. Loved cooking for family.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Solomon Goodman of Middletown and Lee Goodman of New Haven; five daughters, Linda Goodman of Philadelphia, PA, Ruth Michelle Fulton, Paulette Philson, Sheila and Sandra Goodman all of Waterbury, 8 grandchildren Rubyn (Lessie) Davis, Sidney Boles, Sakya Gaston, Dominique Goodman, Tiffany and Jasmine Horner, Ariel Fulton and Jordyn Rountree; 15 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brother- in-law, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She was predeceased by a daughter, Marion Goodman; sister Mary “Puddin” Keels; brothers Clarence “Snook” Jordan, Robert “Buddy” Jordan, Ernest “Pete” and Bobby Jordan.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl Street, Waterbury.  Friends may call the church from 10 am – 11 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the Family. James R. Sanders, Funeral Director
