Obituary of Bob Riddick

Loving Husband and Father

Robert “Bob” Riddick passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on Saturday, February 2, 2019 surrounded by his family.  He was the husband of Margaret Hurdle Riddick for thirty years. 

He was born on November 6, 1938 in Gatesville, North Caroline to the late Jasper and Mary (Sauders) Riddick. 

He was educated in Gatesville, Gates County N.C. School System. Robert worked in Virginia Beach in the Chespapeake Bay Area as a cook at the Officer’s Club for several years, before moving to Waterbury, CT in the 1960s in which he made his home. Robert was employed at Timex for many years until his retirement.

Robert always had a desire to help others and returned from retirement to work at Walmart.

He was affectionately called “Uncle Sweet Potato” for his famous candied yams.  Robert was a member of the Faith Center Church, C.O.G.I.C., Meriden, CT where he was a member of the men’s department.

Besides his wife of thirty years he leaves a daughter, Rochelle (Dennis) Riddick Northover and a step daughter, Erica Gaston Parker, three sisters; Louise and Eva Riddick, Magdalene Smith and a brother; Moses (Bernadette) Riddick.  Bob was well loved by his grandchildren; Tasaya and Nyshay Northover, DeJon, Victoria, Troy Jr., Katera Jones, Evan and Eugene Parker, and four great grandchildrem; Janiyah, DeJon Jr., Lamar and Tamera Jones, several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.  He was also a father figure to Greta, Gregory and Gale Jefferson and Jonean Howard and Jamel Fuller. 

He was predeceased by his siblings; Eliza “Virginia” Wiggins, Bertha Pitts, Mary Norfleet with whom he resided with when he first came to Waterbury and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Rock of Waterbury, 513 Meriden Road, Waterbury, CT 06705.  Visitation will be held of Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury.  Arrangements by Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, James R. Sanders Funeral Director.
