Obituary of Matthew Martin McCarthy
Matthew M. McCarthy, 51, of Prospect passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2019.
Matt was born November 15, 1967 in Waterbury son of Eugene J. and Diana M.
(Brewster) McCarthy.
Matt was a lifelong resident of Prospect. He was a graduate of Wolcott High
School and Porter Chester Institute, were he obtained a certification as an auto
mechanic. He worked in construction most of his life. Matt, “Mr. Fix It”, could fix
anything and was the first to help others with any projects. He was an avid golfer
and sports fan, cheering for his favorite teams, the New York Giants, New York
Mets and Nascar. He loved his family most and truly cherished family gatherings.
Besides his parents, Matt is survived by his brothers Michael (Laurie) McCarthy of
Southbury and Mark McCarthy of Virginia, his sisters Kathleen (Al Bracone)
McCarthy of Prospect and Colleen (Joseph) Capossela of South Windsor, Uncle
William McCarthy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Matt was predeceased by a brother Martin W. McCarthy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at
St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd. Prospect. Burial will follow at Calvary
Cemetery, 2423 East Main St. Waterbury. Friends are asked to please meet directly at the Church. There are no calling hours. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with services.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude
Place Memphis, TN 38105.
