Obituary of Robert George Berner

Robert G. Berner passed peacefully at age 96 surrounded by his loving family on June 24, 2019.  He is survived by his beloved wife Vivian of 71 years and his daughters Adriane, Valerie and Charlotte, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Bob served as an Officer in the Air Transport Command in New Guinea during WWII, before graduating from Brooklyn Polytech with a Masters in Chemical Engineering.  After retiring from Uniroyal and Bristol Babcock he had a second career as an Adjunct Professor in the Science Department at Quinnipiac University from which he retired at age 87.  A resident of Cheshire for 65 years, he served on the Inland Wetlands Commission for 25 years.  He was also an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

A Renaissance man with many interests, Bob was an avid hiker, sailor, tennis and bridge player.  He loved Biblical archaeology, history, geology, reading and teaching.  In addition, he was an accomplished wood-worker.  Together with his wife, they travelled extensively in the US and Europe seeing all the places they had read about, and hiking all the National Parks in the US and Canada, as well as the Alps.  His was a life well-lived.

To Bob, success was earning enough to provide for his family comfortably, but also having the time to enjoy his family.  He will be sorely missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Cheshire, CT. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob’s memory to: St. Peter’s Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410
