Obituary of Leonard Merola

Leonard D. Merola, 88, of Prospect, surrounded by his family, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Eleanor (Bosticco) Merola for over 49 years.

He was born in Hamden, on December 5, 1930, son of the late Domenic and Mary (Monaco) Merola. Leonard served in the US Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a Supervisor for Platt Labonia. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren.  His granddaughter, Kara, was the apple of his eye.  He enjoyed playing cards, the piano and bowling.  You couldn’t find a more dedicated Yankee and Pittsburgh hockey fan. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor by his friends and family.

Leonard is survived by a son Edward McDonald Jr. of Waterbury and a daughter Lori (Turmel) Kecskes and husband Steven of Prospect, four grandchildren Eric Turmel, Michael McDonald and wife Lauren, Kara Turmel, and Victoria Kecskes, a sister Lucy Heath of Hamden, brother-in-law Ronald Bosticco and wife Helen of Florida, along with several nieces and nephews. He also leaves John and Jimmy Troiano whom he also considered as family.

He was predeceased by two sisters Antoinette Labonia and her husband Vincent, and Em Carafano and her husband Mickey; four brothers Nick and his wife Catherine, Guy and his wife Peggy, Paul and his wife Jean,  Blair and his wife Yolanda Merola, and brother-in-law George Heath Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, July 29, 2019 at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours will be from 9 am – 11 am at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect.
