Obituary of Fidai Manelli

Fidai Manelli, 84, of Southington passed away peacefully on August 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  Fidai was the husband of the late Myzejen (Bylyku) Manelli, who passed less than a year ago.

Fidai was born on October 18, 1934 in Kapshtice, Korce, Albania. He was the son of the late Gani H. Manelli and Hanushe (Shamo) Manelli.

Fidai was recognized for his tireless work ethic during his tenure at St Mary’s Hospital, Century Brass and Albert Bros Inc.  He was one of the co-founders of the Albanian American Muslim Community Center of Waterbury and gave without hesitation to his broader local community and to numerous Albanian American civic and community initiatives in the US and in his birthplace.  He was bestowed with the honor of being recognized for his honorable endeavors by the City of Waterbury as the Honorary Albanian Mayor for the Day in 1998 and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Albanian community as well.

Fidai was most proud of his home life and was an avid gardener, always toiling to create a beautiful environment for his family. He also enjoyed gatherings with music and dance, where he appreciated the fruits of his labor.

Fidai is survived by his son Yllson and wife Hurem Manelli of Thomaston, and son Gani Manelli of Watertown and daughters Veprore Manelli and Michael DePiano of Southington and Viosa and her husband Richard Lukaj of Greenwich, grandchildren Bashkim, Renee, Gabrielle, Zana, and Layla, and nieces Fillareta and Anila and nephew Gezim.

Fidai was predeceased by his brother Adil Manelli and his granddaughter Adelina.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday August 6 at 1:30 pm at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 95 Flanders St, Southington.  Calling hours will be held Monday, August 5 from 4 pm to 8 pm, also at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home.
