Obituary of Lyretta Powell

Lyretta (Eggleston) Powell, 73, of Waterbury, passed away on August 11, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the wife of Wilbert Powell, Sr.

She was born on April 27, 1946 in Gatesville, NC, daughter of the late Edgar Eggleston, Sr. and Edlar Kelley Eggleston Nelson. In her spare time she loved to shop, travel, and enjoyed being outdoors with nature. She truly was a happy person and loved her family.

Lyretta is survived by two daughters Marsha (James) Nixon Caraway and Natasha Nixon both of Waterbury, a step-daughter Susan Hammond of Meriden, step-sons Marcus (Melissa) Powell of Waterbury, Antonio (Nancy) Powell of Wolcott, Tracy Graves, Sean Graves both of Waterbury, and Shamon Johnson of VA. She also leaves two sisters Bertha Mitchell and Peggy Eggleston both of Waterbury, two brothers Edgar Eggleston, Jr. of NC and James (Mary) Eggleston of Wolcott, a grandson Devyn T. Abney, several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by a stepson Wilbert Powell, Jr.

The Funeral will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St., Waterbury. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. A calling hour will be from 10 am until the time of the service. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church for 9:30 am. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect with James R. Sanders, Funeral Director is assisting the family with arrangements.
